There’s something satisfying about a device that makes gaming feel accessible again. The Lenovo Legion Go S does exactly that.
A significant part of the appeal is SteamOS, which feels like a smart decision. The whole experience runs cleaner and more intuitively because of it. The device has a proper pick-up-and-play quality rather than feeling like a mini laptop pretending to be something else.
That matters when gaming time is no longer endless. I used to game far more than I do now, but work and family life have a habit of shrinking those longer sessions. What I liked about the Legion Go S was how naturally it fitted into shorter windows. A quick play in bed instead of scrolling through news. Half an hour during a lunch break. A bit of gaming during an overnight stay. It made that kind of use feel worthwhile again.
In testing, it performed best with games that suit handheld play and allow you to dip in and out easily. Hades, a fast and stylish action game built around short repeat sessions, ran beautifully and felt completely at home on the device. Star Wars Outlaws proved more demanding, settling at around 20 to 30 frames per second. That’s absolutely fine for a story-driven open-world title where you’re exploring and taking in the visuals rather than competing for split-second reactions. The device handled the graphical complexity impressively, rendering those large environments without major hitches. It’s a testament to what portable hardware can achieve with demanding AAA games, even if it’s not quite matching desktop fluidity.
That feels like a fair summary overall. This is brilliant for arcade-style games, racers, and anything that works naturally with a controller. For those shorter sessions where you just want to play, it delivers exactly what it should.
The sleep and resume function is excellent. Tap once and it freezes where you are, then returns quickly with very little battery loss even after a long pause. That makes the whole thing feel much more usable in real life.
For anyone with an existing Steam game library, it’s a very easy device to warm to. It’s a reminder that portable gaming can still feel joyful when the hardware gets out of the way.
