Irvine Welsh, the renowned writer behind Trainspotting, is set to appear at two exclusive events
in September celebrating the release of his upcoming novel, Can Nothing Save Us?. Known for
his raw portrayals of modern life, Welsh’s talks promise an intimate look into his life and the
legacy of a career that reshaped contemporary fiction.

Since the release of Trainspotting, which sold over a million copies in the UK alone and was
adapted into an award-winning film, Welsh has published many other significant novels. One of
these is the hit book series Crime, which has seen the first two books being adapted into a TV
show starring Dougray Scott, with the third adaptation currently in development. Across his
work, Welsh consistently explores the darker side of humanity, blended with his use of dark
humour and social commentary.

Can Nothing Save Us? follows these same themes. He broadcasts a perspective on realistic,
modern life, filled with psychological tension and twists. The novel follows a divided, multi-
generational family thrown together in life-threatening circumstances, forced to confront their
pasts, showcasing the complexities of relationships and morals. Set in Las Vegas, Can Nothing
Save Us?
explores unstable family dynamics, power imbalances, and corruption within modern
America.

Welsh will be hosting his Brighton event at the Komedia on Saturday, the 19th of September
and his London event at Bush Hall on Sunday, the 20th of September.

These events are designed to be both engaging and candid – a reflection of his past work and
his upcoming novel. Including a talk, Q&A and book signing, this is a chance to delve deep into
Welsh’s creative process, personal life and the impact of a career that began with one of the
most influential debut novels of its generation.

Outside of his literary career, Welsh is an active supporter of many charities in his communities that focus on youth support, education and the arts. He is the Official Ambassador for the Homeless World Cup, a Scottish charity aiming to reduce homelessness by supporting players of football.

They offer opportunity programs, create community and teach members skills for
employment. His commitment to the communities around him directly reflects the views in his
books, with there often being a large focus on marginalised groups.

Welsh is also involved in the local music scene. Welsh showcases his passion for electronic
music as a DJ and promoter for Brighton-based music label Jack Said What, who describe
themselves as “forward-thinking, kick-ass, underground electronic dance music”. Welsh
cofounded the label along with Steve Mac and Carl Loben.

With a career that spans literature, screen and theatre, Irvine Welsh has proven himself to be a
significant author, pushing boundaries and exploring ideas others might consider taboo. These
events are an opportunity to see firsthand his perspective on society, storytelling and the
importance of uncompromising art.
