Código 1530 Tequila opens a hidden Shoreditch rooftop for summer music and Mexican dining

Good rooftop bars in London are rare enough. Hidden penthouse terraces that open to the public for only a handful of summer nights are rarer still.

For three weekends this summer, Código 1530 Tequila is taking over the rooftop terrace at Aethos London Shoreditch, transforming one of East London’s most sought-after penthouse spaces into a sun-drenched cultural residency of tequila cocktails, high-fidelity music and Mexican-inspired dining.

Running from 26 June to 11 July, the Código 1530 Tequila Penthouse brings together some of London’s sharpest music communities and most exciting chefs for a short but rather stylish run above the city. Expect East London skyline views, intimate DJ sets, a dedicated tequila cocktail bar and a food programme built around Mexican craft, seasonal British produce and open-fire cooking.

The Friday night programme is all about music. The Sunset Sessions will take over the terrace through Spiritland’s acclaimed hi-fi sound system, with three respected London music collectives curating their own penthouse nights.

On 26 June, Small Talk presents Moxie and Sofie K. On 3 July, Test Pressing brings together Alex Nut, Flo Dill and Apiento. The final Friday, 10 July, sees Rhythm Section present Scarlett O’Malley and MLE.

It is a line-up that feels properly matched to the setting: intimate rather than overblown, curated rather than crowded, and designed for people who would rather hear excellent music with a cocktail in hand than shout over a packed bar.

Saturdays shift the focus to food. Mexican chef Karla Zazueta will lead the La Conversación dining programme, bringing her Baja California-inspired cooking together with a run of guest chefs from across the UK restaurant scene.

On 27 June, Zazueta is joined by Helen Graham, formerly of Bubala. On 4 July, she cooks alongside Will Bowlby of Kricket. On 11 July, Brad Carter of Island joins the programme for the final Saturday. Each menu is expected to explore Mexican regional traditions while using seasonal British produce, with the events priced at a more accessible level than many chef-led London dining experiences.

The residency is built around the idea of slowing down and savouring summer, which feels increasingly rare in London. Rather than simply opening another branded bar, Código 1530 is leaning into a more considered kind of rooftop experience: good sound, good cooking, strong cocktails and a setting that makes the city feel a little more cinematic.

For those looking for a different kind of summer night in Shoreditch, this is one to move quickly on. The residency runs for a limited period only, and with a small-capacity penthouse setting, tickets are expected to go fast.
